Gypsy Moth Spraying to Take Place in Naperville

U.S. Forest Service set to begin aerial spraying next week.

The U.S. Forest Service is set to begin aerial spraying for gypsy months throughout areas of Naperville next week.

Spraying will take place in eastern and central portions Naperville from June 24 through 26, according to the city. A map showing the exact spray boundaries is available on the city’s website at www.naperville.il.us/gypsymoth.aspx.

The work is part of an ongoing effort to minimize the invasive impact of gypsy moths in the state. The U.S. Forest Service will be using airplanes to apply the spray.

The treatment used during the aerial spraying will be mating disruption (MD), a gypsy moth-specific pheromone that prevents male gypsy moths from breeding, according to the city.

"This treatment is completely safe for humans, pets and the environment. The public is advised that planes used to apply this treatment may be flying at lower than normal heights," according to the city.
