The 33-year-old took the cab on July 4 and led police on a lengthy chase before being stopped, according to reports.

A 33-year-old Naperville man is headed to court after he stabbed an Aurora taxi driver and took his vehicle on Thursday, police said.

Maurice A. Martin, of the 700 block of Inland Circle, was charged with the following, according to the Chicago Tribune:
  • Aggravated vehicular hijacking
  • Vehicular hijacking
  • Aggravated battery
  • Aggravated fleeing and eluding police
  • Possession of a stolen motor vehicle

Martin stabbed the Aurora taxi driver in the throat with what might have been a broken plastic license plate holder after a brief argument took place, the Daily Herald reports. The driver originally picked Martin up at about 4:45 a.m. Thursday from a Naperville gas station on the 600 block of North Route 59, the Tribune's story said.

The driver, with non-life threatening injuries, got out of the car and Martin drove off in it. The cab was later spotted about 12 hours later at 4:50 p.m. by an off-duty DuPage County Forest Preserve police officer near Butterfield Road and Route 59, according to the Daily Herald.
