After Election Night Website Outage, DuPage Pledges Improvements

County officials said that the amount of traffic caught them by surprise and hampered the ability of the public to access election results.

Officials for DuPage County are saying that the influx of traffic to their election results website, which crashed the page between 8 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, has been a wake-up call to necessary improvements, the Chicago Tribune reports. According to the paper, the problem was caused when the available bandwidth was exceeded; page views peaked at 15,000 within a few minutes, 5,000 more than the peak in the 2012 elections. "If you asked me 72 hours ago if the site would peak out 50 percent higher than a presidential election, I would've laughed," Robert Saar, the election commission's executive director, told the paper. City Seeks Feedback in 'Extreme Website Makeover' Contest

Residents can vote for the city of Naperville in a web design contest now through Jan. 11.

The city of Naperville wants to know what you'd like to see on its new website. Recently, Naperville was named as a finalist in the CivicPlus “Extreme Website Makeover 2012” contest. CivicPlus is a company that designs and builds citizen-focused, interactive communication systems using advanced technology and specializes in city and county e-government, according to the city's website. The winner of the contest will receive a Premium CivicPlus designed website and two years of maintenance fees. The winner will be announced by Jan. 21, according to the city. This year, citizen participation and involvement is a factor in determining contest winners. To be considered for the grand prize, residents must nominate their community for the prize …

City of Naperville Email Up and Running Again

City restores email service and website after a virus attack last month.

All systems are go for the city of Naperville.  While the city put its website back online Oct. 26 after a virus attack took down both the city's website and email Oct. 2, email service was still down throughout the week.
