Students come and go but some make a lasting impression. Basic was that kind.
Sava Basic was the kind of kid a teacher wanted in class. He was interested, engaged and a joy to be around. Knowing him as a high school student, a few of his teachers from Neuqua Valley High School remembered him fondly and were not surprised he went into public service. Basic, 26, died in an accident Jan. 30 when the car he and his wife were in left the road, struck a tree, hit a culvert and rolled. His wake and funeral services were held last weekend in Naperville. He lived in Plainfield, but worked as a police officer in Bolingbrook. Family of the deceased Bolingbrook police officer that died Sunday say all the qualities that made him a good cop made him an even better family member. “His daughter was just the apple of his eye,” said Charlie Krikorian, an uncle of Sava Basic, who died Sunday morning from a single-car accident in unincorporated Oswego Township. “I hate to be repetitive, but everything (the Bolingbrook Police Department) said about him as a police officer applied to him as a human.
