Visions for Vacancies

Visions for Vacancies: Washington Street

Our series asks readers for ideas, thoughts and opinions on what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

We have a unique Vision for Vacancies this week with the former clothing boutique A La Mode, which just closed on Saturday, April 21.  Earlier: Visions for Vacancies: Borders Books Tucked away in a quaint alley at 236 S. Washington St. Suite 107, A La Mode can be found across from Amber Waves Hair Salon and behind Potbelly. This storefront is hard to spot for those walking along Washington Street, or any other nearby street for that matter. But one positive is the store's close proximity to the Central Parking Facility, which is accessible from both Jefferson Avenue and Chicago Avenue.    With this week's vacancy being "off the beaten path," it's going to take a special type of business or attraction to be successful. We've received some …

This is a quirky location. I wouldn't mind seeing a store that sells bath products, like special soaps and things like that. Kind of more like a L'Occitane.   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: Borders Books

Our series asks readers what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

In this week's Visions for Vacancies we travel to the west portion of Naperville to focus on the former Borders Books, located at 336 S. Route 59.  Earlier: Visions for Vacancies: Jefferson Avenue Early last year Borders Books filed for bankruptcy protection and eventually went out of business permanently. The company closed down all of their 399 locations across the county. This location still remains vacant and is surrounded by Buy Buy Baby as well as a Petco. It has plenty of parking and easy access to Route 59, so what should move in? We've received some great feedback in previous Visions for Vacancies, so keep the ideas flowing. What would you like to see at this Naperville vacancy? Let Patch know! Share your vision for this Route 59 …

Visions for Vacancies: Jefferson Avenue

Our series asks readers what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

It's time to get your thinking caps on and creative juices flowing for another installment of Visions for Vacancies. This week we're moving back to downtown Naperville to highlight the former lingerie shop Tresor Intimates. Earlier: Visions for Vacancies: Bally Total Fitness This storefront definitely has potential with a prime downtown location at 20 E. Jefferson Ave., parking garage right next door and on-street parking spaces. The Christian Science Reading room also neighbors the building and Quigley's Irish Pub sits across the street. We've received some great feedback in previous Visions for Vacancies, so keep the ideas flowing. Visions for Vacancies: Washington Street

Our newest series asks you what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

In our third installment of Visions for Vacancies we're putting the focus on Washington Street again. More specifically, 103 S. Washington St. at the former Calico Corners custom fabric store. Earlier: Visions for Vacancies: Chicago Avenue Unlike last week's vacancy, this building has plenty of options for parking with a large lot and rear entrance as well as a close proximity to the Van Buren Parking Deck. It is sandwiched between Bank of America and an ULTA. We've received some great feedback in previous Visions for Vacancies, so keep the ideas flowing. What would you like to see at this downtown Naperville vacancy? Let Patch know! Share your vision for this Washington Street vacancy in our comments section.

Local artisans couldn't afford the overpriced rents downtown landlords are demanding. Look how many have already fled!   more ›

Visions for Vacancies: Chicago Avenue

Our newest series asks you what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

Last week in our newest series we asked you what you'd like to see fill the vacant storefront on Washington Street next to Barnes and Noble. Suggestions for the location, which was previously home to Restoration Hardware, included everything from a movie theater to an arts center. This week we're turning the focus to the adjacent street, Chicago Avenue. Frankie's Blue Room and Cookie Dough Creations border this two-story building located at 20 Chicago Avenue. The vacant building is also surrounded by a number of bars and restaurants such as Features Bar and Grill, Lantern Tavern and Grill, Peanuts Bar and Grill as well as Jimmy's Grill across the street. It's in a prime location for a new business, but what should that business be? Let …

Visions for Vacancies: Washington Street

Our newest series asks you what should fill vacant storefronts in Naperville.

Washington Street in downtown Naperville is a major and important artery welcoming visitors as well as residents to a plethora of shops, restaurants and businesses. While the downtown area is a bustling and thriving space, there are some storefront vacancies scattered about. One of these vacancies was once home to Restoration Hardware, located directly next to Barnes and Noble. This is a prime location for a new business on Washington Street, but what should that business be? Let Patch know! Share your vision for this Washington Street vacancy in our comments section.
