Whether you are a mathematician or a pizza lover, today you can celebrate Pi(e).

Pizza. Apple, cherry and rhubarb. Charlie Brown’s head? What all of these things have in common is Pi, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. Today the world over mathematicians, pizza lovers, fruit and savory pie eaters along with Peanuts fans can come together in celebration over the Greek letter π, also known as 3.14159… Why Charlie Brown has been called a block head when his head clearly has the roundness of a circle has not been solved through mathematics.  But, the search for Pi, not the fruit kind, began back around 400 B.C., Richard Wilders, department chair and professor of mathematics at North Central College has said. Profile: Jay Becker Made Pizza His Business

Naperville North alumn celebrates 25th anniversary Saturday as owner of Uncle Pete's.

For Jay Becker, pizza is more than sauce and dough and some toppings; it is a meal and an experience to be savored. Becker knows his pizza. Saturday he will celebrate his 25th anniversary as the owner of Uncle Pete’s Pizza. Back in 1983, Becker was a Naperville North High School student who started working at the pizza place, located on the north side of Naperville on Washington Street, as a driver. After he graduated, and when the shop’s manager left, he took over the managerial duties. Not long after he began talks with the owner and eventually bought the business. “The town was really growing then and it was a good location,” Becker said. “The owner wasn’t interested in growing the business.” He became a business owner at a time when …

Today the world over mathematicians, pizza lovers, fruit and savory pie eaters along with Peanuts fans can come together in celebration over the Greek letter π, also known as 3.14159… Richard Wilders, a professor of mathematics at North Central College for 36 years, said that he favors apple pie but will gladly eat any type of pizza with some sort of meat on it such as pepperoni or sausage. Italian restaurant re-opens after fire with new location, new pizza ovens and some new menu items

More than seven months after a fire destroyed its original location in downtown Naperville, Rosebud Restaurant re-opened on Friday, just a few blocks down from its orginial location. While the location has changed, it's now at 22 E. Chicago Ave., the name remains the same: Rosebud Italian Specialties and Pizzeria. “We love the location of our new restaurant and our owner definitely wanted to stay in Naperville,” said Jay DeMarco, general manager of the restaurant.  “We have built a great relationship with the city and residents and plan on continuing it for years to come.” The menu is very similar to the old location, but with some new additions, including pizza cooked in the restaurant’s new stone fire oven, he said.
