The GOP Senate candidate from Missouri came up during the Multi-County Young Republican Conference in Yorkville on Tuesday.
Within hours of GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin's deadline to withdraw from the race without a court order, Illinois congressmen were discussing his heavily criticized comments about "legitimate rape" and the party's reaction. Rep. Peter Roskam (6th District), who also is the Chief Deputy Whip, and Rep. Randy Hultgren (14th District) said Akin had a responsibility to Republicans to consider whether he could unseat Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri. “I hope he does look beyond himself," Hultgren said. "We’re at a tipping point right now. We do need the Senate, and we do need the White House.” Their comments came during a Multi-County Young Republican Conference in Yorkville designed to rally participants and help form talking points…

To submit a letter to the editor, email Charlotte@patch.com.
The residents’ of the 6th Congressional District have been represented for several decades by two of the greatest Congressmen in my lifetime: Henry Hyde and now Peter Roskam. Both have been men of integrity and fiscal responsibility. I have appreciated how these men have served their country and constituents well. Unfortunately, I no longer reside in the 6th District. However, I will continue to encourage everyone to vote for Peter. Peter takes time to listen to the people he represents and has a genuine desire to be their spokesman in Congress. Peter Roskam is one of the wisest and most articulate members of Congress and is fighting hard to spur job growth, balance the budget, and combat excessive federal regulations. I encourage every …

Glen Ellyn Patch welcomes letters to the editor. Letters may be submitted to Local editor Mary Ann Lopez at maryl@patch.com.
Peter Roskam for the 6th District I am eager to elect men and women to Congress that truly want to represent their constituents. Congressman Peter Roskam has been doing just that, fighting to create jobs and put a stop to excessive regulations that are hurting small businesses right here in Illinois. He supports the Red Tape Reduction Act, which would bring relief to businesses here in Illinois that are swamped with burdensome and sometimes unnecessary regulations. As a lifelong Illinoisan, Peter has been working hard for the residents of the 6th district in the fight for commonsense economic policies here and across the country. Peter Roskam’s deep Illinois roots have prepared him to fight for your values this upcoming term. I encourage…

Two Democrats and an independent seek support in the 6th Congressional District before the March 20 primary.
With 12 days before the March 20 primary, Democratic Congressional candidates Leslie Coolidge and Geoffrey Petzel sought support from potential voters in Glen Ellyn during a League of Women Voters sponsored forum Thursday night. Coolidge and Petzel, along with Khizar Jafri, a 25-year-old from Wheaton who is running as an indepenent, fielded questions from the audience ranging from health care, taxes to term limits and bringing unity to a highly partisan House. Each candidate said they supported President Barack Obama’s health care reforms passed by Congress in 2010, although each recognized flaws in the bill. Petzel, who supports the universal health care plan, got into the race after suffering a heart attack after dropping his health …

Three of the Democrats competing for the chance to take on Peter Roskam participated in a debate in Palatine over the weekend.
Three of the Democrats competing for the chance to take on incumbent 6th District Congressman Peter Roskam squared off in a debate Saturday. The 6th Congressional District includes a portion of Naperville from north of I-88, west to Route 59, skirting south to Hobson Road and east to the Lisle border. The primary will be March 20. The event was hosted by the Palatine Township Democratic Organization. The questions ran the gamut of issues — including health care, electoral viability, taxes and job creation. For the most part, the candidates agree across the board, except on the issue of who would have the best chance of defeating Roskam in the November general election. "I am running because our Congress is not working for us," said Lake …

Us Republicans have to face the facts that saying we will keep you safe from corruption of the Democrats in Cook County is no longer a valid agruement when you see the millions of our tax dollars missing from the Housing Authority, Water Commission and now the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. All these agencies are controlled by an overwhelming if not total Republican majority! To not …   more ›
