Heavy snow could make for messy commute Tuesday evening.
Update: 6:18 p.m. March, 5 Naperville Department of Public Works crews are working hard this evening clearing streets of snow and slush throughout Naperville. A winter storm warning remains in effect for Naperville until midnight when snow begins to taper off, according to the National Weather Service. Total snow accumulation of 10 to 12 inches is possible. As of 6 p.m., the Naperville area had a total of about 7 inches of snow on the ground. Winds will pick up to 15 to 25 mph, which could result in drifting snow in open areas, according to the NWS. By Karen Chadra The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Cook, DuPage and Kane counties, and virtually the entire Chicago area, from 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, until 4 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to spread across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana this afternoon, with rain persisting through the night. Precipitation of 1.5 to 2 inches is likely, with some areas receiving more. "Much of the area continues to have frozen ground, with only the top few inches of soil having thawed," according to the weather service. Such low wind chill values can cause frostbite to skin within 30 minutes of exposure. Anyone who must venture outdoors during the night is advised to wear a hat and gloves.

Updated at 2:45 p.m. Dec. 20 The Chicago Tribune is reporting that 500 flights have already been cancelled and more than 700 are delayed at O'Hare airport as the Chicago area braces for snow.
