Commuters were delayed about an hour and a half at Naperville's Metra station Friday morning.
A Metra train was stopped at the Naperville station, 105 E. 4th Ave., Friday morning after several doors on the train failed to close, Chicago Tribune reports. Get news in your inbox. Commuters were delayed for about an hour and a half when Metra train 1252, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:34 a.m., was stopped at the Naperville station, according to Chicago Tribune. Metra's Burlington Northern Sante Fe line sent out an alert to commuters during the incident. "Inbound Train #1252 Scheduled to Arrive Chicago at 8:34 A.M. Stopped," Metra tweeted. DePaul study lists Naperville as one of the 20 best communities when it comes to public transit within the suburbs of Chicago.
Naperville has been selected as one of the top ten transit suburbs of Metropolitan Chicago, according to a study released Wednesday by the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development based at DePaul University in Chicago. The city ranks 8th among 20 suburban communities in the report and is described as "a commuter-rail powerhouse," with access to both Metra and Amtrak stations. "More people reach the station on foot or bike than any station (more than 20 miles from Chicago) except Glen Ellyn, giving it a community connectivity score comfortably within the top ten," according to the report. New cars will be fitted with electrical outlets, upgraded seats and working doors and toilets, according to a Tribune report.
Going mobile on Metra is going to become a lot easier these days. The Chicago Tribune reports that the company has recently refurbished 40 older cars, with 60 planned to be done by the end of the year and the entire fleet of 176 to be completed by 2016. Submitted by the City of Naperville Scheduled maintenance will close the entire Lower Burlington commuter parking lot near the Naperville Metra Station the weekend of June 16 and 17 while work is being performed as part of the city’s Municipal Parking Lot Improvement Project. The lot will be closed to all public parking, including those with Amtrak parking permits for the Lower Burlington lot. Amtrak patrons seeking parking for the weekend of June 16 and 17 are advised to use the nearby Upper Burlington parking lot. All other motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate parking; a map of commuter parking options is available on the city’s website.
