Games, rides, food and various musical acts do not properly describe what the Last Fling means to Naperville and its surrounding communities. Schedules started. Sports started. It gets busy quickly.” Jorstad came to the Fling with her husband Brett, daughter Carley,7, and Carley’s friend Kelsey, 7, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for the wrist band unlimited rides. “We liked it so much that we returned with our daughter Cady (2) so she could ride,” Jorstad said. More than 250,000 area residents attended the Last Fling during the weekend to enjoy carnival rides, concerts and other family-oriented activities.
For Lisle resident Will Fedanzo, attending Naperville's weekend-long festivities was all about the snow cones. "This is my first time at the Last Fling," said the 26-year-old, who was on a date at the time. For the past 30 years, the Naperville Jaycees have been throwing the ultimate block party to close out the summer and this year was no exception. The streets of Naperville were filled with people throughout Labor Day weekend, enjoying all that the 2010 Last Fling had to offer. Last Fling spokeswoman Randi Weiland projected on Friday that the weekend-long event—by far the biggest fundraiser of the year—would bring in about $200,000 for more than 40 of Naperville's charities. About 250,000 people were expected to attend. "I've been here …
Navigating a new route and featuring fewer participants, the Naperville Labor Day Parade thrills thousands.
Some kids roamed the streets playing with hockey sticks and soccer balls, and others sold cold pop to folks sitting along the sidewalk. But once the sirens of three police motorcycles sounded, the children all ran back to their parents. The Naperville Labor Day Parade was on its way. Paul DeKruiff, co-chair of the parade, estimates that thousands of spectators lined the route for the two-hour parade. At multiple spots, the crowd extended five rows deep from the sidewalk. Onlookers were treated to the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, Curious George and a choreographed routine featuring library carts, performed by affiliates of the Naperville Public Library. At times, children dashed from their mom's or dad's lap to get a closer look at the antique…
Blues legend Buddy Guy headlines at the Last Fling.
Buddy Guy not only rocked the crowd at the 2010 Last Fling, the legendary blues guitarist and singer also brought together two local service organizations, helping them raise money for local nonprofits. Naperville Rotarians took back Rotary Hill for the night on Sept. 3, as they mingled with the Jaycees, who were celebrating their 30th year of organizing the event. Jason Altenbern, Jaycees president and a member of the Rotary Club of Naperville, said money raised from Rotarians enjoying the hospitality area around the base of the Carillon would be split between the Jaycees and Rotary Naperville Charities. "As this is Rotary Hill, it's the perfect fit," Alternbern said. "I love Buddy Guy and the blues. I grew up listening to him in Chicago…
