Naperville Kmart to Close; Other Layoffs Loom for Walgreens, Sun-Times Media

Crain's Chicago Business is reporting that nearly 1,200 jobs could be lost at the prominent companies.

By Shannon Antinori Nine companies are reportedly preparing for nearly 1,200 layoffs throughout Illinois, including Walgreens, Sun-Times Media and a Naperville Kmart, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Kmart, part of Hoffman Estates-based Sears Holdings Corp., plans to lay off 98 employees when it closes its Naperville store in the spring. The store, located at 1199 E. Ogden Ave., could close as early as late March, reported Crain's. Employees at Deerfield-based Walgreens will face layoffs as well. The company will reportedly lay off 65 warehouse workers in west suburban Berkeley, reported Crain's. Walgreens has nearly a dozen locations …

I agree with Holly. I worked at Naperville Ogden Mall store #3066 between 1989-1996. The mall was in its heyday. I made all sorts of friends and also good money, at a company that treated their employees well at the time. The store and experience means a lot to me, and I'm sorry to see it go.
