Sakthivel Sadayappan loves his job so much that every day he arrives at around 6 a.m. and doesn't get back to his home in Naperville until about 7 p.m. But, he would never complain. As an assistant professor in the department of cellular and molecular physiology at the Loyola University of Chicago Medical Center, he knows his job is not—and will never be—9 to 5. “I have to thank God for giving me this opportunity to help other people,” Sadayappan said. His effort and love for his work recently paid off when he was awarded a $1.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. Sajida Inam's store offers hand-crafted items and traditional Pakistani clothing to a broad clientele.
Maggie Brown stumbled upon Yoomna's Gift Shop one day while walking past the store. She hadn't intended to stop in, but the jewelry and brightly colored clothing in the window drew her in. Since that day a few months ago, Brown has become a fan of the store and one of Yoomna's many returning customers. "The store has a nice variety of stuff and I really like Saj," she said, referring to the store's owner, Sajida Inam. Inam, 45 and a Naperville resident, opened the store almost one year ago. Yoomna's will celebrate its anniversary on Nov. 21. The decision to open the store was prompted by the fact that there aren't any boutiques or stores nearby that sell the products available at Yoomna's, Inam said.
