Inaugural Naperville Marathon Sells Out in One Day

After fees were slashed due to a flood of complaints on social media, the inaugural Naperville Marathon sold out on the first day of registration.

Both the Naperville Marathon and Half Marathon completely sold out Monday, which was the first day for registration, Runner's World reports. By 7 p.m. Monday, only 30 spots of the marathon's 3,500 were left. The Naperville Marathon will take place Nov. 10 and will be a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. Race organizer Bob Hackett told Runner's World that registration was nearly split in half, with 1,846 runners signing up for the half-marathon and 1,654 for the marathon. After criticism…

Running the Strip in Vegas, One Step at a Time

While most people go to Las Vegas to gamble, Naperville Patch editor Mary Ann Lopez went to run.

Last Sunday, while the gamblers, party people and show goers were in a deep, sound sleep in hotel rooms along the Las Vegas strip, I was just waking up. Most people go to Vegas to gamble and see the shows. I went to Vegas to run a half-marathon. A few years ago I wouldn't have traveled a mile to do a race of six miles. Then again, I was almost 50 pounds heavier and feeling pretty lousy about life. Making changes, I started to exercise. I met people who were fitness freaks and they became my friends. They say you should surround yourself with people who exude the qualities you want to emulate, but I never thought I'd associate with marathon runners or Ironman triathletes.
