Residents Safely Escape Douglas Avenue Blaze Sunday

A home in the 400 block of Douglas Avenue was deemed uninhabitable after a fire broke out Sunday afternoon on the third floor.

Residents safely escaped a fire in the 400 block of Douglas Avenue Sunday afternoon that caused approximately $275,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable, according to fire officials. The first fire call came in to the Naperville Fire Department at 2:44 p.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, responding crews found high heat conditions and heavy smoke coming from the single-family home’s third floor, said Naperville Fire Department Bureau Chief Kevin Lyne. Initially 24 firefighters and 10 apparatus were dispatched to the fire, but because of the size of the building, the incident commander upgraded the fire to a box alarm and additional crews responded.
