Criminal Damage, Trespassing at Madison Junior High: Police

Naperville Police are looking for more information regarding damage to a tree at Madison Junior High.

Naperville Police are seeking more information regarding criminal damage at a Naperville school. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 24 when a tree was damaged on the west side of Madison Junior High School, 1000 River Oak Dr., according to the Naperville Police Department.  Police discovered that a 20-foot-tall pear tree had been purposely cut near its base, police said in a release. A neighborhood resident who told police four people were seen near the area of the school on Feb. 28 around 10:57 p.m., which is when police believe the damage to the tree took place. Due to high winds, police believe the tree broke completely on March 24, according to a release. Police said this is the third time a tree has been damaged on the school's …

City Cleans Up, Making Tagging Futile

Last month someone went on a tagging spree around Naperville, but the graffiti is painted over or washed off quickly.

While graffiti taggers may attempt to leave their mark around Naperville, city crews quickly clean up defaced property. In May and early June, a “snow storm” of sorts hit Naperville as a tagger defaced at least 23 electrical boxes and additional property with the word “snow,” according to Naperville Police reports. Those taggings continued on an off through the start of June.  “We think it’s more of a tagging thing, not gang related,” said Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell. “They are just tagging; maybe coming up with a name for themselves.” Once the graffiti is found it doesn’t stay up for long in the city, he said.  “The faster you clean it up, the more discouraging it is for the person doing it,” Bell said. “Their handiwork isn’t being …

Police Blotter: Redimix Trucks Damaged, Woman Turns Herself In

The Naperville Police Department reports, June 18.

Mireya Laura Hernandez, 27, of the 600 block of East Galena Boulevard in Aurora, was arrested at 7:32 p.m. at the Naperville Police Department, police said. She turned herself in at the police department and was charged on a failure to appear warrant from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. Her bail was $3,500. Someone in the 500 block of Spring Avenue reported that between Friday and Monday at 5:55 a.m. someone bent mirrors on four “redimix” trucks and through concrete through the passenger side window of another truck when the vehicles were parked in a parking lot, police said. Antionnita Monique Givantt, 24, of the 7600 block of South Kingston Street, Chicago, was arrested at 26th and California in Chicago, police said. She was charged with three counts of forgery. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. Darriel Zarr Lewis, 22, of the 2300 block of Reflections Drive, Aurora, was arrested at 11:26 p.m. at Route 59 and Continental Drive, police said. He was charged on a warrant. His bail was $3,000.  A 39-year-old woman who was cutting grass on a median at Naper Boulevard and Bakewell Lane for a city contractor reported that an unknown object struck her window, shattering it, police said.

Police said Marek Ryszard Kozina, 27, of the 4100 block of Landing Drive in Aurora, was arrested at 12:05 a.m. in the 400 block of East Ogden Avenue. He was charged with two counts of battery, battery with intent to do bodily harm and knowingly damaging property. His bond was $150.  Police said Matthew Aaron Barrera, 19, of the 1100 block of Needham Road, was arrested at 5:18 p.m. in the 800 block of East Ogden Avenue.
