Submitted by North Central College The North Central College women's track and field team has qualified five individuals for competition in the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, to be held May 24-26 at Fritz B. Burns Stadium in Claremont, Calif. The top 22 declared student-athletes in each event, based on their outdoor performances since Mar. 1, were accepted into the competition. The final list of qualifiers was released on Sunday. The Cardinals will have a pair of athletes making return trips to the outdoor championships in Krista Cota and Brianna Tolliver. Submitted by North Central College An extended first-half scoring rally turned out to be enough to doom the North Central College women's lacrosse team to defeat on Wednesday evening, as the Augustana College Vikings put a damper on the Cardinals' Senior Night festivities by defeating the hosts, 19-7, at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium. After scoring the game's first goal, the Cardinals (6-8) were held scoreless for more than 20 minutes while Augustana found the net 10 times. The Vikings owned a 11-4 advantage at halftime and led by at least six goals the rest of the way. Submitted by North Central College The two-time defending outdoor national champion North Central College men's track & field team will send its largest contingent in program history to Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday for the 103rd Drake Relays. Cardinal athletes will compete in seven relay events at the prestigious meet while six athletes will compete as individuals. North Central will field relays in the 4x100-meter, 4x200-meter, 4x400-meter, 4x800-meter, 4x110-meter hurdle shuttle, distance medley and sprint medley events while individuals will compete in the 10,000-meter run and the pole vault from Thursday through Saturday. To be eligible, an individual must have an overall grade point average of 3.30 or above during their season of competition and must have lettered in their respective sport for that season. Submitted by North Central College Taking advantage of ideal playing conditions to post some of its best numbers of the spring, the North Central College men's golf team turned in an 11th-place finish in the 22-team Augustana College Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Pinnacle Country Club. After turning in a score of 327 in Friday's opening round, the Cardinals were one of many teams going low on Saturday, totaling a 313 for their best round of the spring and their third-best effort of the academic year. North Central's total of 640 placed it ahead of Augustana, as well as fellow College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) rival Elmhurst College. The Cardinals totaled 114 points, outdistancing the seventh-ranked hosts by four points. Ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University placed third with 107.5 points. Submitted by North Central College A four-run fifth inning condemned the North Central College baseball team to a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin defeat on Friday, as the Cardinals dropped a 4-3 decision to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at Jack Horenberger Field. The Cardinals (13-6, 4-2 CCIW) took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning, as Joe Turek delivered a two-run double with two outs to give North Central an early 2-0 advantage.
