Authorities said 84-year-old Erdman Spradlin of Naperville was driving westbound on Interstate 94 in Michigan near the Indiana border when his vehicle crossed the center median and hit a car traveling eastbound, according to the Berrien County sheriff's department. Spradlin died at the scene, according to the department. Authorities said Spradlin’s 84-year-old wife sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. An elderly man backed his car up more than 100 feet from a parking space into a brick wall of a local bar in the Hobson Commons Shopping Center Thursday afternoon.
An elderly man backed his car up more than 100 feet from a parking space into a brick wall of a local bar near 75th Street and Rickert Drive Thursday, witnesses said. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. in front of Your Neighbors bar in the Hobson Commons Shopping Center. The driver of the car was not seriously injured, but witnesses said he was visually shaken up after backing a white Mercury Grand Marquis into a brick column of the building. It is unknown whether any others suffered injuries as a result of the accident. Witnesses said the man was taking a driver’s test at the Naperville Driver Services Facility, which is next to the bar, and an employee of the facility was in the passenger seat of the car during the accident. Illinois State Police have not released the identity of the victim.
One individual is dead following a three-car crash on northbound I-355 on Saturday near the border of Lisle and Downers Grove. A spokesman with the Illinois State Police said that the crash occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. near the on-ramp to I-88. Officials could not specify whether the fatality was a driver or passenger; they have not released the identity of the victim pending notification of the family. Two other individuals involved in the crash were transported to nearby hospitals, the spokesman said. An investigation is ongoing. Police are not releasing additional details at this time. A Shorewood man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving too fast for conditions, after police said he drove his car into a billboard post and fence early Tuesday morning. Naperville police and fire departments responded to the 500 block of Chamberlain Avenue after someone called 911 to report a vehicle had driven into a structure just before 1 a.m. Tuesday. When emergency personnel arrived, they found an orange 2008 Dodge Charger in a yard off the roadway. Dean A. Suominen, 36, of 513 Ca Crest Drive in Shorewood, was trapped inside the vehicle, had to be extricated and was taken to Edward Hospital, where he remained as of early Tuesday afternoon. A Naperville Police officer who was responding to an emergency call with his patrol car's lights flashing and sirens blaring was T-boned on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Ogden Avenue and River Road. The accident occurred at about 1:40 p.m., according to the Naperville Police Department. The officer was heading to an emergency call and was driving southbound on River Road in a police car, with his lights and siren in use when he was hit by Mary C. Coogan, 69, of Westchester, police said. Coogan was driving a 2003 Mercury Marquis westbound on Ogden Avenue approaching River Road when the accident occured. Police said Thomas Gleason wasn't wearing his seat belt when he hit a tree early Saturday morning.
A Naperville teen died overnight after the SUV he was driving hit a tree, according to the Naperville Police Department. Police identified the driver as Thomas Gleason, 18, of Fox River Drive. Members of the Naperville Police and Fire departments responded to a 911 call at about 1 a.m. in the area of Canyon Run and Golf Drive for the report of a vehicle hitting a tree, according to a news release from the Naperville Police Department. Upon arrival, responders found a 2006 Pathfinder in the front lawn of 1845 Golf Drive, the news release said. Naperville police are investigating an evening crash that blocked traffic Thursday from about 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A 15-year-old passenger of a vehicle involved in a Thursday night crash on Ogden Avenue was listed in critical condition around midnight on Friday. The passenger, who was in a sport utility vehicle and is from Lisle, was airlifted from Edward Hospital to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, according to a news release sent by the Naperville Police Department around 12:15 a.m. He was one of five people who were injured in the accident, which occurred shortly after 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Naper Boulevard and Ogden Avenue, said Naperville Police Cmndr.
