5 Cool Ways to Beat the Heat This Weekend

Don't sweat the high temperatures. We have some fun ideas for things to do around Naperville.

The heat this week was a bit challenging, to say the least. Being stuck indoors isn’t the most exciting way to spend days and nights. Not to mention that it’s easy to go stir crazy. We have some ideas for some beat-the-heat fun, which will help keep your cool this weekend. Be careful, this could cause brain freeze or, maybe, just a lot of steam escaping from the top of your head.  Trek to downtown Naperville where you can enjoy ice cream, gelato and frozen yogurt within the space of few blocks. You can venture from spot to spot downtown, or just stay on Jefferson Avenue between Washington Street and Main Street. Inaugural Snow Bowl Honors the Memory of a North Central Professor

Faculty, students and alumni gathered Friday night to hold a fundraiser in honor of Lora L. Tyson.

Students, faculty and alumni from North Central College were throwing strikes Friday night in honor of former education professor Lora L. Tyson. The inaugural Snow Bowl was held to raise funds to renovate the Dr. Lora L. Tyson Curriculum Center, housed in the Oesterle Library on the college’s campus. About 100 people attended the fundraiser held at the Brunswick Zone. Tyson, who would have turned 61 Friday, was on the college’s faculty from 1999 to 2008. She died from ovarian cancer in 2008. Maureen Kincaid, a member of the education faculty and a fellow colleague of Tyson was one of the event’s organizers. “This has exceeded my expectations,” Kincaid said. “I am happy that we have so many people involved in this event.
