Athlete of the Week: Bolingbrook's Football Team

Individual contributions lead Raiders to state championship.

By the voting deadline for this week's Athlete of the Week (9 p.m. Nov. 22), the Bolingbrook football team had 92 percent of the votes, making it the clear winner. It would be easy to regularly nominate Aaron Bailey for Patch Athlete of the Week honors. Bolingbrook's quarterback, a heavily recruited junior, leads the team in offensive production every game and his numbers are good enough to stand toe-to-toe against any of the state's top performers. Last week, Bailey actually garnered Patch's weekly award and could have again this time around on the strength of 199 rushing yards and a game-winning touchdown. This week's about the Raiders though -- all of them -- because it took all three phases of their team to beat Naperville Central on …

Athlete of the Week: Bolingbrook Quarterback Aaron Bailey

The junior signal caller has led the Bolingbrook Raiders to the IHSA 8A state semifinals.

By the voting deadline for this week's Athlete of the Week (9 p.m. Nov. 16), Aaron Bailey of Bolingbrook had 48 percent of the votes, making him the clear winner. In Saturday’s 47-19 quarterfinal victory over Downers Grove South, Bolingbrook's Aaron Bailey rushed for 214 yards and five touchdowns, the kind of production expected from big-time running backs. Bailey, Bolingbrook High School's star junior, managed that output from the quarterback position. But it is nothing new to opposing defense's, which makes this type of performance in a playoff game all the more amazing. For example, the Raiders' latest win was the second time they've managed a victory in the playoffs without the benefit of a single passing yard. “We were kind of messing…

Bolingbrook 64, Benet Academy 44. Bolingbrook's Ariel Massengale took it upon herself to carry her teammates to a sectional championship, pouring in a game-high 22 points in a 20-point win against Benet.

The Hot Read: Bolingbrook took Benet Academy's best shot in the first half of Thursday's Romeoville Sectional final, but the Lady Raiders delivered the opening salvo of the third quarter and didn't stop until they earned a 20-point victory and sectional championship. Bolingbrook captured its seventh consecutive sectional title with a 64-44 win. The Lady Raiders were led by McDonald's All-American Ariel Massengale, who bounced back from a sluggish semi-final performance to put up 22 points and four rebounds—the senior point guard put her teammates on her back and carried the bulk of the team's scoring. Junior Morgan Tuck scored 14 of her 15 points in the second half in support of Massengale's show-stopping performance. Benet opened the game…
