2012: Naperville Patch's Most-Read Stories of the Year

A look back at the year that was in Naperville.

Taking a look back at the year that was in Naperville, it's evident the city saw a number of tragic events. As each new detail was reported during the Wild and Plackowska incidents, we held our family members and children a little closer. But when a tragedy hit the city, Naperville residents, neighbors and officials came together. Whether it was a candle light vigil or a memorial, we were there for each other. All week we asked readers to vote for the best place to buy children's clothes in Naperville in our Readers' Choice poll and based on the results you chose Gotskind's Shoes & Clothing. Rankings were determined based on a combination of total votes and reviews in our business directory. Gotskind's was the clear winner with 71 percent of the vote. All week long we asked who you trust when it comes to providing the best care for your four-legged friend. Based on your votes, we found a winner.

It was a very close contest, but when asked to vote for the best animal hospital in Naperville in our Readers' Choice poll, you chose VCA Naper Ridge Animal Hospital. Rankings were determined based on a combination of total votes and reviews in our business directory. VCA Naper Ridge Animal Hospital received 28 percent of the vote while County Line Animal Hospital came in a close second place. Reader Barbara Morgan gave VCA Naper Ridge a 5-star review: "The only vet service we have used in the 17 years we have lived in Naperville. Can't say enough wonderful things about the staff and doctors. Caring, considerate, compassionate." And readers had some great things to say about the other nominees as well. When it comes to taking a break from it all, you don't have to go very far in Naperville to feel like you're on vacation.  And in this week's Readers' Choice, you chose the Naperville Riverwalk as the best staycation destination in the city.
