Gentle Pets with King Size Hearts Seeking Homes

Every week Naperville Patch shares a few of the adoptable pets waiting for homes at the Naperville Area Humane Society and Animals Deserving of Proper Treatment.

Phoebe is a 3-year-old American pit bull terrier mix that was a shelter transfer due to lack of space.  She is a friendly but shy girl who does get along with other dogs, but should not live with cats.  As she can be sensitive, kids in her new home should be at least 12 years old.  She likes going for walks, playing with toys and sitting on a nice cushy lap.  Phoebe has become a favorite at the shelter due to her gentle and kind nature.  Stop by soon to meet Phoebe!  She is patiently waiting for her new home. Gracie is a 3-year-old female Terrier mix that was a shelter transfer due to lack of space.  She is a very gentle girl who loves to go for walks and snuggle next to her human friends.  As she can be a bit shy and sensitive, kids in her new home should be at least 8 years of age.  She does get along with other dogs, but would do best with a dog her own size and who is on the calm side.  She would also do well with a cat. Lucinda is a 3-year-old domestic shorthair female who was returned because her owners moved and could not take her with them.  She is a very loving and affectionate cat who likes to be petted and play with toys.  She can be shy around small children, but does get along with other cats and maybe a cat-friendly dog.  As Lucinda does not like a lot of loud noises or activity, a home on the quiet side might be the best fit for her. Riley is a 1-year-old Yorkshire terrier mix that was surrendered because his previous owner did not have enough time to properly take care of him.  He is a playful and loving dog that likes toys and sitting on laps.  Kids in his new home should be at least 8 years old as small children can overwhelm him.  He does …

Zoe is an 8-year-old female calico who was adopted as a kitten, but returned to NAHS when a member of her family developed allergies.  She’s front paw declawed and prefers a quiet home.  Zoe’s previous owners described her as affectionate, lazy and a bit shy around visitors.  Zoe doesn’t mind most other cats and may be fine living with a cat savvy dog too.  Zoe enjoys playing with toys, but may be shy around a lot of commotion, so would prefer living with school age children.  This beautiful, sweet kitty would love a second chance at a forever home, could it be with you? These are a few of the adoptable pets waiting at area shelters for permanent homes.

Daisy is a happy, friendly and very active girl. She would benefit from attending obedience school and having a family that can commit to getting her plenty of stimulation. She would do best in an active home that will include her in their family activities. She is a little over a year and weighs about 45 pounds. Hoss is a playful boy but still working out the rules at A.D.O.P.T. with all the other kitties. Sometimes when things get a little crazy he finds it easier to just duck out of sight. Cindy Lou is bold and beautiful and a cat that knows what she likes. She loves attention!  She also loves feather toys (what self-respecting cat doesn't?). She doesn’t believe in wasting time before giving herself over to tummy rubs and head scratches. Cindy Lou will be your shadow though she prefers to live without other cats. Chloe came to A.D.O.P.T. from animal control. She is a 5-year-old German shepherd and weighs approximately 70 lbs. She is one of our special needs dogs. She has had one leg removed, but she hasn’t let it slow her down one bit. She loves to be showered with attention. Chloe loves tennis balls and is eager for a playmate to play catch with! Pierce is a 12-year-old male Persian. He’s declawed on all four paws.  Pierce was surrendered because he doesn’t enjoy living with small kids, so he would prefer a quieter home without small children. He gets along with most other cats, but sometimes enjoys his own space.  He will need daily brushing and occasional grooming due to his handsome locks and fancy fur. Adopt Me! Bonded Cats and Loving Dogs

Callie and her 11 puppies were rescued by A.D.O.P.T. from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky. Callie is a spayed 5-year-old Labrador retriever. She is very friendly and quite affectionate. She has been nicknamed the “Snuggle Smuggler” because she’ll cuddle up to you at any open opportunity. Callie has a gentle demeanor and so good with children she often helps us with Girl Scout activities. Callie and her puppies are available for adoption. Creamsicle is a guy who takes his time getting comfortable with people and is a bit unsure of himself in new surroundings. He needs a little adjustment time from a patient and loving person in order for his true self to come out of hiding. The shelter turned out to be too stressful a place so he is living …

Lacie is a 4-year-old female beagle.  She needs an exercise program and if you like to take a lot of long walks, she just might be the perfect dog for you.  She prefers to play with people and doesn’t want to be left out in the yard to entertain herself.  She loves to play with stuffed toys and has been known to sneak tissues out of the garbage to shred.  Lacie is a roly-poly happy girl who can live with dogs and cats and enjoys children of any age. Mika came to Animals Deserving Of Proper Treatment from another rescue group. She is an 8-month-old beautiful pit bull mix. Mika is an energetic and bouncy pup. She is a sweet and good-natured girl who just loves to play. Mika likes nothing more than to try and crawl in your lap and cuddle or get as close as she can to get her neck rubbed. Since Mika is still a young dog still learning, she will benefit from obedience school.
