My family and I have been going to Wheaton's French Market for many years. It has a great variety ofRead More vendors and is overall a pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning. Recommended!

Same old geezer bands with hardly an original member anymore.

These acts are truly getting old. Oh well, better than having Ted Nugent in town I guess...

Trying to distract from the fact that they have wild captured whales and dolphins in their poolsRead More that they kidnapped to exploit for money!
william savick February 26, 2014 at 10:24 pm
Learning how to take care of this whale species now will save it from extinction decades from nowRead More when their numbers are diminished through reckless hunting.
Grumpy Old Man February 27, 2014 at 08:02 am
There are good reasons for certain institutions to capture wild creatures. WS mentioned one. ThatRead More said, there is the problem with over stocking of captured animals and not understanding them. Orcas are the primary example. Most orcas are not being captured for study but for profit. And when you have an 8 - 10 ton animal in an enclosed space your may have trouble - two trainers killed by the same orca. There are no recorded instances of orcas attacking humans in the wild - get one in a tank and even if the death is accidental you are still playing with fire - orcas are not dogs. They are highly intelligent creatures - actually the largest member of the dolphin family although their size resulted in their being termed "whale" many years ago and it has stuck. So I agree with both Gina and William on that subject. I am a little surprised that the Shedd is now expanding into a dog show as well. if that helps encourage people to adopt rescued dogs, great.

(20 ILCS 1605/2) (from Ch. 120, par. 1152) Sec. 2. This Act is enacted to implement andRead More establish within the State a lottery to be conducted by the State through the Department. The entire net proceeds of the Lottery are to be used for the support of the State's Common School Fund, except as provided in subsection (o) of Section 9.1 and Sections 21.2, 21.5, 21.6, 21.7, and 21.8. The annual salary of the Director is $142,000.

Ty, the even bigger political game was that the lottery was sold to ADD TO school funding. Instead,Read More what they did was to use the proceeds to REPLACE the existing funding. The net effect is the schools got about the same amount of money but the state got a huge windfall of new money (the old source of money that used to go to the schools) that they then used on port barrel spending to buy themselves more years at the public trough.

"Of course. Of course children who have nut allergies need to be protected. Of course. We haveRead More to segregate their food from nuts, have their medication available at all times and anybody who manufactures or serves food needs to be aware of deadly nut allergies, of course. But, maybe, maybe if touching a nut kills you, you're supposed to die. Of course not. of course not. Of course not, Jesus. I have a nephew who has that I'd be devastated if something happened to him, but maybe. Maybe if we all just do this (shields eyes with his hands) for just one year we're done with nut allergies forever." -- Louis CK

Hey how about "More Than An Inconvenience" in living with the allergy generation! We tryRead More to control and our over-sensitivity in creating germ free environment for our kids. We’re so busy killing all the bad things, our kids have no chance to get exposed to them in small doses and build up the defenses or immunity to foods or anything else for that matter. Why do people believe that their needs are greater than the majority and we must conform to there needs? How about the majority without allergies that have to work around the "peanut kids" at school? This is such the entitlement generation!
Michael Hunt February 7, 2014 at 03:34 pm
Keeping them safe is a priority, of course. Of course. But how 'bout we figure out why there areRead More Peanut Kids in the first place? This is even a new one for Gen Xers. What's been going with people born since '81? Is it the peanuts (genetically modified crops)? Is it the kids (test-tube fertility babies)? We can send men to the moon ... y'know, if we had the cash and we really wanted to ... so let's figure out why we have Peanut Kid!!

East-Side Napervillian January 30, 2014 at 10:09 pm
Naperville is a really nice city to live in but the North Shore is a nicer area. Evanston has a CTARead More line, a true beach, Northwestern, very quick drive or bike ride to Chicago, and just north are the wealthiest suburbs of Chicago. Evanston's downtown has more quaint shops while Naperville's feels like an outdoor mall. Chicago has many nice suburbs, which is a good thing! So, it's not surprising Naperville was passed for this rating.

Can someone explain why Iowa and Nebraska get subsidized prices for 89 octane corn fuel? Why don'tRead More we also get the benefit instead of subsidizing corn syrup?
