In 1955, a group of 55 people founded the Unitarian Universalist Church in Naperville. The church and its congregation are welcoming to visitors, and they have become known specifically as Welcoming Congregation. Those who identify as GLBTQ are invited to attend. The church does not have a creed and is the opposite of a hierarchical church. The members believe that each person is responsible for his or her own search for meaning, and nobody will tell a member what to believe. What is more important is that members live their lives and do what they can to improve this world. The church has strong child and youth programs and also holds formal and informal group discussions. Free childcare is available at all services.
