The YPN Perspective: Volunteering During the Holidays

With the holidays fast approaching, many people are contemplating giving back to the community by volunteering. I am here to tell you—MAKE THE TIME. IT'S WORTH IT!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

With the holidays fast approaching, many people are contemplating giving back to the community by volunteering. I must admit, it is hard to find the time during this busy season. But I am here to tell you—MAKE THE TIME. IT’S WORTH IT!

Volunteering will give you the warm, fuzzy feeling at this holiday time and also help you become a more dynamic young professional. Not to mention, volunteering will open up your network tremendously! As you volunteer alongside community members, you will build relationships and build your business network. A strong network is the hallmark of a being successful professional.

Many of you might want to volunteer but just don’t know where to start. This is where I (and the Chamber) can help! Naperville has well over 150 nonprofits in town that need help from volunteers in a variety of capacities. Below is the link for all the nonprofits in town. Simply check out their website or give them a call and offer your time. They will be ecstatic!

If you find it hard to choose just one nonprofit, there are several service clubs to join as well. Service clubs are a group of people who come together to give back to the community, they are completely volunteer driven. These clubs raise money through events and then redistribute that money back out to the local nonprofits.

Below is the list of the core service clubs and their websites. Check out each club to see who they are (each has a little different member demographic), when they meet, and what they do before you make your decision. Each one has a lot to offer.

So, go, volunteer, grow your network and be a better professional this holiday season! As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! I would be more than happy to help give you some ideas.
