Kandace Huebner: Helping Feed the Hungry Around the World

Kandace Huebner was honored with a Naperville Youth Service Award for her volunteer work at Feed My Starving Children.

Kandace Huebner’s volunteer efforts have helped save the lives of those starving around the world.

As a volunteer for Feed My Starving Children for more than four years, Kandace helped pack meals at the nonprofit in Aurora once a week, adding up to an incredible number of service hours, according to Feed My Starving Children’s Sarah R. Weir, senior team leader and Ursula Maley, MobilePack supervisor.

Huebner was nominated for and received a Youth Service Award for her volunteer work at Feed My Starving Children. The nonprofit’s mission “is to feed God’s starving children who are hungry in body and spirit.”

Every year, KidsMatter together with Mayor Pradel and the Naperville City Council, give out the Naperville Youth Service Awards to deserving teen volunteers during a special ceremony.

Along with the volunteer hours Huebner put in, she also helped organize groups from her church to pack at Feed My Starving Children as well. And, according to Weir and Maley, most significantly, she has organized and run, alongside her father and the Feed My Starving Children staff, two MobilePack events at her church. She helped with all aspects of the program from set-up to tear down and proudly wore her blue hairnet during the event.

“Kandace was definitely instrumental in the success of these events,” the women said. “Both events each packed over 100,000 meals. The work Kandace has done has contributed to feeding hundreds of children across the world. That is something to celebrate!”
