“Pull Through” – What does that mean? - Tribeca Salon Services Answers!!

Tribeca Salon Services featuring Rachel from Naperville -Answering the question of the meaning of "pull through"- Educating & Sharing the Knowledge!!

“Pull Through”?!? What’s the meaning & how does it affect your hair?!?

Tribeca Salon Services is excited to answer a question from Rachel in Naperville regarding the concept of “pull through”. Often times we overhear salon staff discussing our hair with terminology that we don’t understand.  As client’s, we should feel comfortable enough to ask the salon staff about what is being done to our hair and why.  The look and the health of our hair depend on it!

Dear Rachel,

When hair color is "pulled through", it means that the color at your scalp is being applied to the ends. Often times the color is “squished” through the ends of the hair for a few minutes towards the end of the processing time.  I would be curious to know if you are having a touch up with permanent color.  Unless your hair has never been colored before, permanent color should NOT be applied to the ends of your hair.  Pulling permanent color from your scalp to your ends will dry out your hair and create a build up that can cause the ends to become darker than the rest of the hair. Your colorist should be mixing a separate product to glaze the ends.  The glaze will match the permanent color, add shine and make the hair feel incredible.  Since the glaze is a separate product, it costs the salon a few extra dollars.  There are many professional salons that understand the importance of taking that extra step.  It's important to ask your colorist before beginning your color service how they balance the ends of your hair.  When applied correctly, the integrity of the hair is maintained.  Also, you’ll be amazed at how your hair will look and feel!
