My wife hates my hair! Can you help?!!!

Tribeca Salon Services is excited to answer a question from Dylan in Naperville about how to improve the look of his hair.  Often times we get stuck in a rut when it comes to our hair.  Though it can be hard to hear, sometimes it’s the ones who love us the most that can give us a shove in the right direction.

Question from Dylan in Naperville:

My wife keeps telling me that my hair looks wet and thin.  She says that my hair looks thin because of the gel I put in it.  What other products can I use to make it look thicker?  It bothers me that my wife hates my hair.  I definitely think it could look better than it does, but I don’t really know what to do about it.  I’ve been going to one of those sports places for my monthly cut, but I never get the same person twice.  Help!  What can I do to make my hair look better?!

Tribeca Salon Services Answers:

Dear Dylan,

Not to worry, help is on the way!

First of all, I must agree with your wife about the gel.  There are so many men who get out of the shower and then put gel in their hair when it’s still wet.  The end result is hair that dries separated, which causes it to appear thin and wet.  This is not a good look.

My first suggestion would be to dry your hair with a hairdryer.  While this may seem like an unnecessary step, I promise that it will improve the look of your hair!

If you wish to put a small amount of gel into your hair while it’s wet, that’s no problem.  The key is to dry the hair after applying the gel.  The product I would recommend when the hair is dry would be a matte wax or paste.  This type of product can make the hair look and feel much thicker than it is.  My favorite is Redken Rough Paste, though there are many excellent products on the market.

Finally, I cannot say enough about finding a good stylist who will get to know you and your hair and be able to work with you to keep your hair looking current.  You truly do get what you pay for.  Invest in yourself by getting a quality haircut and using professional styling products.  You deserve it!!!

Dylan, The model featured in the above photos uses Redken Rough Paste. It holds his style all day long. I think you would really like it, just remember to apply it to dry hair. You can find it in any professional salon. ~ Patty McGuire
