“Gotta wash this gray right outta my hair!” – Tribeca Salon Services Responds!

Tribeca Salon Services featuring Linda from Naperville – Answering a question about how to cover her gray hair. – Educating & Sharing the knowledge!

Gotta wash this gray right outta my hair!  - How to cover stubborn gray hair and make it stick!

Tribeca Salon Services is excited to answer a question from Linda in Naperville about how to cover her stubborn gray hair.  While gray hair can indeed be tricky, it can absolutely be covered and should last until your next color service. Do not make the mistake of thinking that box color is the way to go.  Finding a professional colorist will be the key to maintaining consistency with your hair color.

Question from Linda in Naperville:

I just started coloring my hair but can’t ever seem to get the gray covered.  It always ends up looking translucent at my scalp area.  What am I doing wrong?

Tribeca Salon Services Answers:

Dear Linda,

Where to start…okay, first of all, please don’t color your own hair!  You are not alone in taking matters into your own hands, Linda, but please, there are so many better alternatives.  Often times women attempt to color their own hair in order to save money.  While using box color does save money, the result is almost never like the color on the box.  If you’re looking to save money, look into going to a salon on days when the young talent is taking clients.  You’ll end up saving, all while getting a professional service.  Another option is going to a cosmetology school when the students are taking clients.  Again, there is a professional there consulting with the student, so there is nothing to fear.  There are so many factors that come into play with hair color that I almost have to laugh at box color.  You can’t pick a color on the box, think it’s pretty and think that’s what your hair will look like.  There are other things to consider that only professional colorists know about.  Redken Color Fusion has a double N series that provides excellent gray coverage.  I find that even stubborn gray is able to be covered by Redken.  I promise you, it should definitely cover!  It’s not you; it’s the product you’re using!  I hope this helps, Linda!
