Memorial Day: Ensuring Veterans Are Never Forgotten

In honor of Memorial Day about 2,000 flags were placed on graves of area veterans on Friday and Saturday.

In honor of Memorial Day, volunteers were expected to place 2,000 flags on the graves of veterans at Naperville area cemeteries. 

On Friday morning at 9 a.m. the volunteers began the task of placing the flags at veterans’ graves. Members of the , American Legion, along with Scouts from Boy Scout Troops 106 and 111 and students from Naperville North High School were among the many volunteers participating. More flags were going to be placed on Saturday.

Gunner Baker, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was one of those participating. He said the veterans deserve to never be forgotten.

Baker along with other veterans and two students were placing flags at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Among the recent high school graduates volunteering Friday was Amanda Louise, 17.

“They served our country and I think it’s really brave and they deserve to be respected and honored,” she said.
