Naperville 2012 Battle of the Bands Winner to Play at RibFest July 3
The winner of the 2012 Battle of the Bands contest , Food & Fire, will play At RibFest on July 8. Runners up will kick off the 2012 Rollin' on the River series on June 8.
On Friday, May 18, an audience of cheering fans gathered for the 2012 Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors’ Battle of the Bands at the Community Concert Center in Central Park. The winning band, Food & Fire, earned the coveted spot at RibFest on Tuesday July 3rd and will represent the Naperville Park District in the Illinois Park and Recreation Association’s Battle of the Bands regional competition in Glendale Heights on Saturday, July 28. The winner of the regionals will advance to the finals at the Illinois State Fair in August.
Nine Naperville high school student bands were selected to compete in the May 18 contest as finalists based on their applications and the quality of their demo recordings. Winning second place was This Week’s Trend, followed by third place winner Coffee House Tipsters. Both the second and third place bands will play at the June 8 Rollin’ on the River concert to kick off the 2012 series. Each band will play a 45-minute set between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. on the Riverwalk at Webster St. and Jackson Ave.
The Youth Ambassadors is a group of high school students who work with the Naperville Park District to plan community-wide special events for their peers each year. Battle of the Bands was one of several events that took place during the 2011-2012 school year.
