Kifowit Offers Help for Homeowners at Mortgage Resource Fair
AURORA, Ill. – In order to provide assistance to people at risk of foreclosure, state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit, D-Aurora, will host a Mortgage Resource Fair with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, state Senator Linda Holmes, state Representative Linda Chapa-LaVia, Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner, the Fox Valley Park District on Saturday, October 19 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Prisco Community Center, located on 150 W. Illinois Ave. in Aurora.
“In this district, there are hundreds of families that may need advice on how to refinance their homes, avoid foreclosure scams, and protect their rights as homeowners,” Kifowit said. “Everyone needs to know that there is always time to fight for your home.”
Several expert housing counselors from the Attorney General’s Office and reputable mortgage lenders will be available to provide one-on-one assistance. Attendees should bring their financial documentation, including pay stubs, bank statements, tax returns, and utility bills. Earlier this year, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, in conjunction with other state attorneys general and federal agencies, secured a historic $25 billion national settlement with the country’s five largest bank mortgage servicers – Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank and Ally Bank, formerly GMAC. The settlement addressed allegations of widespread robo-signing of documents and other fraudulent practices by banks during foreclosure proceedings.
