Kifowit Measure to Help Veterans Facing Financial Hardships Signed into Law

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Continuing her efforts to assist Illinois’ veterans, legislation sponsored by state Rep. Stephanie Kifowit II, D-Oswego, to help veterans and their families facing financial hardship was signed into law last week.

“As a veteran, I understand the financial struggles a military family can face,” Kifowit said. “Many members of the armed forces experience financial difficulties following the completion of their service.”

Kifowit sponsored House Bill 3833, which provides financial relief to military families in need.  Under previous law, these programs were only available for service members who were deployed in U.S. military operations overseas, but this measure now includes service members who are called to state active duty as well.

“By providing financial relief to our veterans, we can help them as they transition from military to civilian life,” Kifowit said. “This legislation will allow more military families to receive the assistance they have earned.”
