NNHS Runners to Compete at Nike National Championship Race

Seven runners recently qualified for the upcoming Nike National Cross Country Championship race in Portland, Oregon.

Seven athletes from Naperville North High School girls cross country team will make the trek to Portland, Oregon this weekend to compete in the Nike National Cross Country Championship Race.

Grace Carballo and Kimber Meyer (seniors), Maria McDaniel (junior), Ellie DeTurris and Jenny Smith (sophomores) and freshmen Judy Pendergast and Kate Shannon recently qualified for the Dec. 1 Nike Cross Nationals. The event is comprised of eight regional qualifying meets and the national finals in Portland. 

The girls are members of NNHS girls cross country team, who are the 2012 IHSA state champions and coached by North Central College alum Dan Iverson.

The Nike Cross Nationals event will feature a multiple loop race course with man-made obstacles built on the inside of a horse race track at Portland Meadows in Oregon, according to the event's website.

Fields of 22 seven-person clubs and an additional 45 individuals (male and female) will be competing in the event for the Winged Goddess of Victory statue.
