Kroehler Family YMCA Olympic Day

Basketball and volleyball were inducted into the Olympics in 1936 and 1964. Basketball started out with two peach goals as hoops. Volleyball developed as a less physical alternative to basketball. They both started and spread through the YMCA system and continued to grow in popularity.

To honor the impact the YMCA has had on the Olympics, Kroehler Family YMCA will hold an Olympic day of their own. On August 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, they will host a variety of events such as swimming races, running events and crab soccer games.

Compete as an individual or with your family and friends. All ages are welcome and races are split into age groups. Families and friends also have the chance to participate in two different relay races.

Create your own team flag and show it off at the Opening Ceremony. Come cheer on your friends and family as they race. Join a hula hoop or limbo contest and help end the day by applauding all those who joined in on the fun at the Closing Ceremony.

A five dollar fee per athlete is all that stands in one’s way of feeling the pride and joy of a YMCA Olympian. And who knows, maybe in the future you will be one of those American Olympians that started at the YMCA just like Bart Conner (gymnast), Janet Evans (swimmer) and John Naber (swimmer).
