Chiefs to Battle Arlington Stallions for Trip to State Rugby Championship

In the Semi-Final Round of the Illinois Youth Rugby Association Division 1 High School Boys Playoffs, the number 2 seed Chiefs (6-1) will host the number 3 seed Arlington Stallions (6-1).  

The match will be played on Thursday, May 22, at the Crossroads Community Church Sports Complex at 3003 S. Eola Road in Aurora with a kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Chiefs advanced with a tough Quarter-Final victory over the number 7 seed, Fenwick Friars 32-29.  In an exciting match with numerous lead changes, the Chiefs emerged victorious.  

Chiefs scoring included two tries, worth 5 points each, by Keagan Griffin (OEHS Senior) and additional tries by Deanta Goins, Ahmad Issacs (OHS Senior), and Griffin Lawrence (OHS Senior).  

Andrew Kallas (WVHS junior) connected on a penalty kick, worth 3 points, and was successful on two conversion after try kicks, worth 2 points each.  Arlington advanced by defeating the number 6 seed, Morton, 31-22.

The winner of the Semi-Final round will play in the State Championship match to be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th in Loves Park. and the losing side will play for third place.     

The Chiefs are a co-op team, comprised of primarily of players from four area high schools; Waubonsie Valley, Metea Valley, Oswego, and Oswego East, with additional players from Aurora Central Catholic, Neuqua Valley, and Yorkville.  

The Chiefs also field a Division 2 varsity team, a junior varsity team, a freshman/sophomore team, and a Middle School co-ed team, the Ospreys.  New players are always welcome, there are absolutely no size restrictions or requirements, and no experience is necessary.
