Cardinals Lose to Illinois Weslyan 4-3

The Cardinals had an early lead in the game, only to lose to the Titans.

A four-run fifth inning condemned the North Central College baseball team to a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin defeat on Friday, as the Cardinals dropped a 4-3 decision to the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans at Jack Horenberger Field.

The Cardinals (13-6, 4-2 CCIW) took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning, as Joe Turek delivered a two-run double with two outs to give North Central an early 2-0 advantage. Illinois Wesleyan countered with a four-run rally in the fifth inning, with each of the runs coming with two outs, to take a 4-2 advantage.

North Central got an RBI single from Joe Paparone in the sixth to slash the Titans' lead to a single run at 4-3, but the Cardinals were held without a hit in the final three innings.

Sam Carius went 2 for 5 at the plate for the Cardinals. Starting pitcher Kris Singhallowed three earned runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking four.

North Central hosts the Titans in a double header on Saturday, with action at Zimmerman Stadium scheduled to begin at noon.
