Quinn Awards $1.9 Million to Demolish Temporary Buildings at College of DuPage

"Removing these temporary buildings will clear the way for future construction projects at the college," Governor Quinn said.

Governor Pat Quinn today announced an investment of $1.9 million to demolish temporary buildings at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. Funded by his Illinois Jobs Now! construction program, the project is part of Governor Quinn’s commitment to creating jobs and driving Illinois’ economy forward.

“Removing these temporary buildings will clear the way for future construction projects at the college,” Governor Quinn said. “The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will drive the local economy forward.”

“We are grateful to Governor Quinn for the funds to complete this crucial project,” said College of DuPage President Robert L. Breuder. “By demolishing these 42-year-old ‘temporary’ buildings, we will be positioned to construct a teaching and learning center of the future in which we will prepare people for tomorrow’s career fields and, at the same time, further strengthen our economic climate here in Illinois.”  

The project involves the demolition of temporary buildings M, K, OCC and L, filling in the building sites, and abating hazardous materials. Three contracts were awarded for the work. The general demolition work will be performed for $1,834,524 by Pepper Construction Company of Chicago, the lowest of five bidders. The electrical work, which involves the removal of utilities, will be done for $25,000 by Utility Dynamics Corporation of Oswego, the lower of two bidders. Asbestos abatement will cost $69,700 and the contract went to the lowest of three bidders, Midway Contracting Group, LLC of Tinley Park. The Illinois Capital Development Board will manage the project.

College of DuPage serves more than 28,000 students and is the second largest provider of undergraduate education in the State of Illinois.

College of DuPage project is part of Governor Quinn’s $31 billion Illinois Jobs Now! program, which will support more than 439,000 jobs over six years. Illinois Jobs Now! is the largest construction program in Illinois history, and is one of the largest construction programs in the nation.
