NCC to Host Testing Site for American Mathematics Contest 8

North Central College will host a testing site for the American Mathematics Contest 8 for students in grades 8 and below in its Harold and Eva White Activities Center.

Students who are either home-schooled or enrolled in area junior high schools will be able to participate in the free event.

Registration will close Oct. 30. Those interested in registering should contact NCC Professor of Mathematics Richard Wilders to request a registration form.

The Committee on the American Mathematics Competitions organizes contests such as the AMC 8 to recognize and reward student excellence in mathematics.

The AMC 8 is a 25-question, 40-minute, multiple-choice examination in middle school mathematics that is designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.

Students who achieve high scores on the AMC 8 will be invited to take the AMC 10 exam for students in grades 10 and below.

Top scorers in these contests will qualify to compete in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination with the possibility of qualifying to compete in the International Mathematics Olympiad. North Central College will host these exams for all students who qualify from its site.
