Meet the Beekeepers at Kline Creek Farm

Learn about the lives of bees and get an inside look at a hive during “Meet the Beekeepers” on June 11 and 12 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s 1890s living-history farm in West Chicago.

Talk with the farm’s volunteer beekeepers, and learn how they care for the farm’s bees. Discover how honey is processed from the hive to the jar, and learn about other products like beeswax. Registration is not needed to attend these free demonstrations.

Honeybees do more than make honey. They are a key part of food production. Today, bees are often transported to farms when plants are blooming, where they pollinate flowers to allow fruits, vegetables and nuts to grow. One third of the food we eat, from apples to zucchini, is reliant on bees. At Kline Creek Farm, the apiary is located near the orchard to so that the bees have pollen to gather and the flowers develop fruit.
