Two Incumbents, Two New Faces Take Naperville D203 School Board Seats

Susan Crotty and Jackie Romberg won re-election, while Kristin Fitzgerald and Donna Wandke will join the board.

Two familiar faces will join two new faces on the Naperville District 203 school board in the fall.

Facing off against seven other candidates vying for four open board seats, newcomers Donna Wandke and Kristin Fitzgerald came out on top along with incumbents Susan Crotty and Jackie Romberg Tuesday.

Since 2008, Wandke has worked as a youth ministry leader at Good Shepherd Church and was also a math teacher at Naperville North High School for eight years. 

In a Patch questionnaire, Wandke said her top focus will be on the implementation of Common Core Standards.

"As a person who has experience with curriculum adoption, district level curriculum committees and extensive curriculum research, I will provide insight and guide our district into the future by asking appropriate questions and working within limited state funding," she wrote.

Fitzgerald runs Fitzgerald Consulting, a health policy consulting firm. She also served as education policy advisor to local U.S. Representatives in Congress.

Fitzgerald said her priority is to work closely with the community while serving on the school board. 

"My number one goal is to work with the community to set educational priorities for our schools that ensure each student's success and the academic and financial future of our district," she wrote in a Patch questionnaire. "Our district is working to implement many changes -- new curriculum, assessments and programming,  and we have growing financial challenges. However, by prioritizing our most important goals we can ensure our academic and financial success and continue our district's outstanding track record."
