After three years as the Superintendent of Naperville School District 203, Mark Mitrovich announced Monday night he is resigning his position as of June 30.
He made the announcement Monday night during a meeting of the .
In 2009, Mitrovich took over leadership at the school district and was signed to a three-year contract, according to District 203.
In a statement before the Board Mitrovich said:
"I would like to make a statement this evening that has required considerable thought and personal reflection. I am announcing my resignation from the position of Superintendent effective June 30, 2012. This is a personal decision made in conjunction with my family. I’d like to acknowledge the Board of Education for its dedication and role in leading this school district.
I’d like to take a moment to thank the outstanding administrative leadership in this District, teaching and educational staff who are innovative, nurturing and committed professionals and who dedicate themselves to the children every day.
I’d also like to acknowledge all the volunteers and the members of this community who so willingly support the education of all children in the District. There is no better example of this then the people who served on the Enrollment Capacity Study committee. And to the families who entrust their children to us, I thank them for showing their faith in the schools and the leadership and for being true partners with us. You are an amazing group of people.
This is a remarkable district and community. I thank you for the time I have been able to serve you."
Mitrovich built his career in Washington state where he was employed as the Superintendent of the Peninsula School District located in Gig Harbor. He co-founded EdGate, where he spent 10 years as the company’s chief education officer. He is also the developer of Total Reader, a Internet-based reading assessment program for students in grades K-12.
With Mitrovich leaving in June, officials at District 203 said the Board of Education will determine what steps need to be taken. Once those steps are determined they will be announced to the community.
