Artwork Sale to Benefit North Cental's Riverwalk Gateway Project

Artwork on display at North Central College's Schoenherr Gallery through June 24 will be sold with proceeds helping to fund a Riverwalk project.

Submitted by North Central College

Proceeds from the sale of artwork currently exhibited at North Central College will directly benefit the College’s Riverwalk Gateway project.

Visitors may purchase more than 40 different pieces from the exhibit “Images from a Well-Traveled Lens,” on display through June 24 in Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. The exhibit showcases the photography of Hunt Harris, a Moline native who has visually documented his travels around the world.

Prices range from $195 for small pieces to $395 for larger works. Prices include glass framing by Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing of Naperville, which has partnered with Harris and the College on the exhibit.

A portion of the proceeds from each sale will help finance construction of the Riverwalk Gateway. The College is partnering with the City of Naperville, Naperville Park District, Naperville Riverwalk Commission and Naperville Riverwalk Foundation to build the Riverwalk Gateway this summer in the area between Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium and Fredenhagen Park. The Riverwalk Gateway and Sesquicentennial Walkway comprise the College’s Sesquicentennial Legacy Project, which will improve pedestrian access and beautify the campus for the enjoyment of the community.

Harris and his wife have been to every continent at least twice, and many photographs in the exhibit were taken during these travels abroad. With these photos, he not only frames his subject matter from a scenic perspective, but also edits the work in Photoshop to further carry out the essence of the image.

Beyond his canvas work, Harris makes all his own prints using specialty archival papers. He uses pigment inks that have a projected life of more than 100 years and uses a clear coating to further preserve the quality. A recently retired entrepreneur, Harris looks forward to pursuing his avocation with photography even further, all while enhancing his education with photography workshops and mentorships.

To purchase pieces or to learn more about the exhibit, contact Nickole C. Lanham, North Central’s gallery director, at 630-637-5375 or nclanhammurray@noctrl.edu.

Naperville Tutoring has brought my ACT score so much higher than I had anticipated coming from 2Read More previous ACT prep classes. I feel so much more prepared after 2 weeks with Naperville Tutoring than from former months of ACT PREP practice. The 2 teachers on 1 student structure truly pushed me to work harder than ever and the work is paying off. By exposing me to so many different kinds of problems and giving me new tips and tricks, I know I ready for test day, June 8, 2013.
