20 Indian Prairie District 204 Schools to Remain Closed Wednesday Due to Heat

Administrators cancel classes for schools without air conditioning for second day in a row.

Wednesday marks the second day in a row that some Indian Prairie School District 204 schools will cancel classes due to excessive heat.

Administrators called off classes Tuesday in schools without air conditioning as temperatures reached a high of 94 degrees. High temperatures are expected again on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

"The temperatures experienced today, with little relief expected tonight, will not allow our buildings to sufficiently cool down in time to handle tomorrow’s anticipated high temperatures," according to IPSD204.

The elementary schools where classes will be canceled on Wednesday include: Brookdale, Brooks, Builta, Clow, Cowlishaw, Fry, Georgetown, Gombert, Graham, Kendall, Longwood, McCarty, Patterson, Spring Brook, Steck, Watts, Welch, White Eagle, and Young.

Classes have also been canceled at Indian Plains, the district’s alternative high school, according to IPSD204

All other schools in the district will operate as normal on Wednesday.

The YMCA's Safe n' Sound program in schools without air conditioning has also been canceled for Tuesday, according to IPSD204.
