A Very Special November

When we think of November we think of fall leaves, the temperature dropping and the start of the holiday season.

Thanksgiving is not the only holiday to kick off of season this year.

For the first time in over 100 years, the first day of Chanukah and Thanksgiving share the same date. The last time this happened was in 1888 and it will not happen again for thousands of years.

In addition to these special dates, we are also recognizing National Family Caregiver Month in November. This month, we honor those who are caring for their aging loved ones at home.

According to the *Office of Women’s Health, 44 million Americans (21% of the adult population) will be caring for a loved one and will provide unpaid care to an elderly or disabled person over the age of 18.

When we are caring for an aging loved one, it is easy to put our own needs off to fulfill the needs of our family member.

We must remember to take care of ourselves in order for us to be strong and healthy enough to take care of others.

Remember these three very simple steps:

·      Eat three meals per day

·      Be sure to rest when your loved one is resting

·      Do not be afraid to ask other family members for help.

If you do not have relief or support, it may be time to get help from someone outside of your family. A home health care company in the Chicago Western Suburbs can provide help in the home, but when your loved one is no longer safe there, it may be time to consider other senior living options.

Assisted Transition  of the Chicago western Suburbs is an advisory service that is NO COST to you or your loved one. We live and work right here in your neighborhood.  Let us guide you on where to find help in your area. We can even help you find a respite solution just to give you a break during this very busy time of year.
