Will County Forest Preserve Site, Trails Opening Late

Due to the extremely cold weather conditions, the Forest Preserve District's Sugar Creek Administration Center in Joliet and Monee Reservoir Visitor Center will open late at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28.

The Plum Creek Nature Center in Beecher and Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville will open at their normal time, 10 a.m.

Opening of preserves and trails will also be delayed, although they should be open no later than 9 a.m.

Although our preserves are open, we encourage everyone to use their best judgment when considering outdoor activity during the extreme cold, and to take all possible precautions if outdoor activity is necessary. The predicted wind chills of 25 to 40 below zero through Tuesday can lead to frostbite in as little as ten minutes of outdoor activity. Learn more about the risks and recommended precautions for being outdoors on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Web site.

Dog park patrons are also encouraged to ensure they are not putting their pet at unnecessary risk with outdoor activity in the extreme cold.

Like humans, dogs are also susceptible to frostbite and hypothermia, even large and thick-coated dogs. Learn more about the risks and recommended precautions for having pets outdoors on the American Veterinary Medical Association Web site.
