Wheatland Township Trustee Resigns
Board members to interview candidates to replace Mike Crockett on July 7.
A month after trustee Darren Bennefield left his post to take a spot on the Will County board, Wheatland Township is losing another official.
Trustee Mike Crockett, who took an active role in fighting the previous administration's plans to build a $1.5 million township building, submitted his resignation to Supervisor Chuck Kern on June 20.
Crockett was elected along with a slate of Republican candidates, including Bennefield, in 2013.
Deputy Clerk Bill Alstrom said the township board has received applications from six residents interested in taking Crockett's spot on the board. Board members will interview candidates in an executive session meeting on Monday, July 7.
With plans for a brand-new administrative building defeated and administrative operations being consolidated in to the Highway Department facility on Tower Court, Crockett told the Naperville Sun that he considered his work done.
"I'm looking forward to rest and relaxation," he said.
"Hopefully we will have a decision soon" on Crockett's replacement, Alstrom said. "We're moving fast."
Last month, Bruce Wronski was sworn in to fill the remainder of Bennefield's term. Wronski is a retired Chicago police officer, and has lived in Wheatland Township since 2010, Alstrom said.
Monday's special meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the township building, 4232 Tower Ct. in Naperville.
