Park Board Approves Employment Agreement for McGury

McGury's new contract extends employment through 2015

At its Special Board Meeting on February 23, the Naperville Park District’s Park Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Executive Director Ray McGury’s employment contract. This included the amendment to the current contract as well as a new contract that extends employment with the District for McGury through December 31, 2015.

“The Naperville Park District board and staff, and ultimately the community, has benefitted greatly from the stability and progress perpetuated by the strong leadership provided by Ray McGury,” explained Mike Reilly. “I speak on behalf of the board when I say that we are pleased to renew Ray’s contract and continue reaping the benefits of his commitment to the District and this community.”

Highlights of McGury’s contract are as follows:

  • McGury receives the additional security of an annual renewal of the third year of the contract, absent cause for dismissal or action by the District
  • In exchange for security in renewal provisions, the guaranteed salary adjustment percentage was reduced from 3% annually to 2%.
  • McGury agrees not to accept employment with the City of Naperville or any other park district located north of Interstate 80 through the end of 2013.

McGury joined the in September 2008. During his tenure, the District has flourished under his leadership, thereby realizing many significant accomplishments including:

  • Continued renewal of the District’s Aaa financial rating by Moody’s Investors Service
  • Completion and execution of the District’s 5-year Strategic Plan, which was adopted in late 2009
  • Significant budget dollars and resources saved through the implementation of green initiatives and organization-wide efficiencies
  • Successful achievement of the national CAPRA accreditation, making Naperville Park District only the second Illinois park district to achieve this status
  • Successful completion of the 2011 “Big Three” projects on-time and under budget; these included the Centennial Beach renovations, Nike Sports Complex expansion and the Seager Park Interpretive Center and site improvements

“Ray is truly invested in this community and he challenges his team to find ways to increase the value to our residents,” Reilly explained. “Historically, the District has been a great value and asset to the community, but Ray brings a lot more to the table in that regard and our residents benefit from that approach.”
