Have we heard anything about Tuesday collection yet?
Brian Slupski (Editor) January 06, 2014 at 05:28 PM
All the city has said is that collection would be delayed one day. So for now, Monday people would put out their stuff for Tuesday pickup. We will let you know if we hear differently.

What most Naperville residents and city officials don't realize is Naperville recycling which is done by Resource Management Companies.......don't have trucks with the automatic arm yet. so with that said the recycling men of Naperville still have to get in and out of the truck at every stop and physically get the recyclables. as with the garbage men which uses the company BFI have the automatic arm and maybe only have to get out of their truck once or twice per block. with all the cases of frostbite already I feel it is inhumane to make these men out there working in the freezing below temperatures. It doesn't matter how much they bundle up mother nature wins this one.
Rose January 07, 2014 at 12:23 AM
I am at a lost with how inhumane Resource Management can be to there Recycling Crew!!! There have never been as many cases of "Frost-bit or Hypothermia' in history within one day, then there is right now with this Bitter Weather! BFI is Naperville's Garbage which has arms on there trucks to pick the cans up while the driver sits in a warm vehicle and may have to get out of there trucks once every other few blocks, As for Naperville's Recycling...They don't have trucks with arms to help, they have to get in and out of there trucks for each and every home. I work for a law firm & will be passing out business cards to that crew in the morning, they will be needing a lawyer they all have a strong case!!!

Naperville Urges Residents to Prepare for Freezing Temperatures, Blowing Snow. Temperatures are expected to plummet to 15 to 20 degrees below zero with a wind chill factor of 40 degrees below zero. Limit outdoor exposure for your pets. Check frequently on any animal while they are outside....But lets not worry about our Crews working the outside!!! Go Naperville officials
Gerard Schilling January 07, 2014 at 08:01 AM
Sounds like BFI staff attacking a competitor!
Rose January 07, 2014 at 10:43 AM
That's what you got out of that? Don't you have a caring bone in your body about people who need to work in this? It has "Nothing" to do with BFI, and all to do with Resource Management, I could only compare to the garbage truck because it is the other truck in community that everyone sees. Please have compassion for the people working outside!!!

Are we dealing with adults here or big babies. Let them take a personnel day, sick day or a vacation day. These guys are union and have all three alternatives and don't need to be babied by you or anyone else. It's bad enough that government employees are given off because it is cold outside now we are supposed to pay all others to stay home. Grow up and start taking personal responsibility for your actions and let everyone else do the same.
Roy Rumaner January 07, 2014 at 11:31 AM
Gerard you are an idiot. Let's see you go stand outside for 15 minutes. I bet inside 5 you would be crying like a little baby that you were to cold and wanted to come inside.
Rose January 07, 2014 at 11:33 AM
I don't know who might be being a baby...But that is your answer? That's what you do? Cop out, bale on your co-worker? Gerard for some reason your making this personal??? Care to share??? I was asking for some compassion for people who need to be outside... Now I find myself having compassion for the anger you seem to be carrying around. I hope you get the support you need.
Gerard Schilling January 07, 2014 at 11:56 AM
I am neither angry or uncaring but rather sick to see this nanny state mentality consume all our institutions and have elitist like yourselves emasculate our kids and adults making them believe they can't make day to day decisions without big brother running their lives.
Jim P January 07, 2014 at 12:29 PM
Wow! Calling people off work when there is life-threatening wind chills is a "nanny state"? Gerard has issues.
Rose January 07, 2014 at 02:09 PM
Gerard the old saying is he who has the gold makes the rules. They do run our lives, weather we like it or not! Union lack the power they once possessed, not only are you not listening to the news...Life Threating conditions!!! Your not listening to what should be your own basic common sense. you apparently lack compassion for the people who are being required to serve you a tax payer in what are short but rare conditions. So take this message personally you are not in the situation of resource management workers, or postal workers or any other person that works for a greedy corporation that only cares about the financial bottom line. Your are like the other mentally sick greedy individuals that put profit over safety and you, like them are a huge part of the problem with this whole country. Corporate greed! period! It's no longer in this country about a company simply being profitable its about a company being profitable at any and all cost, be it the loss of jobs, injury, or life. these are simply my opinions but so hold no real value I am sure you disagree and cant and wont accept you lack compassion are not mentally capable of basic common care for your fellow man and their families that rely on them everyday. Having a conversation with you has proven to be talking to my self. I don't do that. so have a good day Mr Corporate Hitler. Your wrong about what this blog is about I am not a nanny or a baby sitter. I believe in helping all people not just my own. You clearly look out for #1 as you step on #2. that is your attitude. Gerard accept that you are who you are. I do.
Gerard Schilling January 07, 2014 at 02:51 PM
I see you have all the Aiinsky rules down pat Rose. When you can't debate objectively call people names.
Rose January 07, 2014 at 04:04 PM
Awe! Gerard you do have feelings. We now know that about you. I am so sorry I hurt them! NOT! However Gerard having feeling and getting them hurt is completely different. You have feelings but you only care about your own and not others. You need a heart. People who are force to work under poor conditions get hurt feeling too. The feel like no one cares about them. Gerard you have no heart you don't care about people, hat is sad! I feel sorry for you. You should try giving to someone sometime without expectation of something in return. Oh sorry you cant. That would require a heart something you don't posses. Yes my opinion is if you possess a heart it is very very small. To be fair to you out of compassion I will call myself a name too, I am a loser because I am not working now on any big cases, but because of stupid laws, corporate corruption, poor politics, not only is my sons job on the line right now so is my boyfriends. Gerard I don't really know you, but your possibly one of a couple of things: miss informed, or the opposite over educated so you have lost touch with the reality of common sense. For your sake I pray your financially wealthy and but even if you are your nothing else. Your an angry unhappy man and are looking for someone to bully. sorry Gerard no takers here. Go bully someone your own size, and don't go away angry, please just go away! If you really had any knowledge about this topic you would know you were really "Not" being called any names by me. You, we are just being used as the mule to deliver my message of the sickness of corporate greed. I apologize if you actually took it personally. It's not about Gerard thanks for being a sound board. You were great! Sincerely Rose
Roy Rumaner January 07, 2014 at 04:11 PM
Rose you are wasting your time trying to explain anything to Gerard. He is a lonely old man who sits in his creaky old house complaining about everything from the kids music being to loud to the smart meters being a communist plot to take over our lives. Now he is complaining that people are not out working in sub zero temperatures. No matter the subject, Gerard will have something negative to say about it. You can see that by how he invokes the name of someone who has been irrelevant and dead since 1972, the last year Gerard ventured outside of his own private little bubble.
Hector January 07, 2014 at 06:38 PM
So, Rose, what about the Com Ed workers that were out yesterday in the life threatening cold working to restore power to all those without, should they stay home to? Or the people shoveling snow off the walks at all the business and municipal properties? Having been outside for work the last few days myself, I can tell you if you dress for it, and take warm up breaks, it is no big deal. Stick with your office job, and let those of us who actually work out in the cold decide if we need to stay home.
Hector January 07, 2014 at 07:38 PM
Raggedyann, good point. Funny, I have heard of ambulance chasers, but this is a first for recycle truck chaser....lol
Rose January 07, 2014 at 11:30 PM
Hector, You said it yourself: If you take warm-up breaks, those who shovel can go inside to warm up, as for Com Ed they seem to have compassion for their employees & give them warm-up breaks in a warm truck...I never said "Anything about staying home" Resource Management could had placed their crew in a better way & put 2 men on one truck, 1 drives for 30 minutes & one tosses totes & they switch (Common sense) One man on a truck getting in & out every house doesn't have a chance to warm up. Same with our poor mail carriers they have option to get in there mail truck & warm when needed, I don't know what you do but you did say you work outside also I can't name all who work outside but I was simply saying that companies are greedy, I have compassion for those & feel sorry for anyone that needs to be out in it. As for passing out business cards, why not I get to be in a warm car just like the Naperville officials .
Bob Fischer January 09, 2014 at 09:21 AM
Recycling trucks with arms will come later this year when Naperville ditches the bins to go with trash carts for recycling. This will reduce - but not eliminate the need to get out of the trucks
Rose January 10, 2014 at 11:50 PM
Thanks for that information Bob, it will defiantly be a step up.
