Loomis Street to Close Near Naperville Metra Station

Detours planned for Loomis Street closure beginning Friday, Aug. 24.

The Loomis Street crossing of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be closed for one week while construction crews perform track maintenance at the crossing.

The closure is scheduled to take place beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 and ending at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, pending weather and unforeseen circumstances. The crossing will be closed to both traffic and pedestrians for the week. While repairs are taking place, the city will also be replacing sidewalks near the crossing.

A pedestrian, vehicle and bicycle detour will be posted and can be viewed by visiting the project's website. The 5th Avenue pedestrian underpass will remain open while construction is taking place.

Due to the close proximity to the , motorists should plan ahead and expect traffic delays in the area. Work at the crossing will not affect the Metra train schedules.

This project is also being coordinated with work that is ongoing for the , which is located a few blocks east of Loomis Street.

The sidewalk on the Columbia Street Bridge will not be closed while the Loomis Street crossing is closed for construction work. Additionally, temporary lane closures on the bridge will be kept to a minimum and only during non-peak traffic hours.
