Legionnaires' Disease Traced to Naperville LA Fitness Hot Tub

Two men contracted Legionnaires' disease. The bacteria was traced back to a hot tub at a Naperville health club.

NBC 5 is reporting that two men contracted Legionnaires' disease and that the bacteria was traced back to a hot tub at LA Fitness on Freedom Drive in Naperville.

The DuPage County Health Department said that tests on the shower and pool came back negative. Although the health club remains open the hot tub is closed while more tests are being conducted, NBC 5 reported. The incident was first reported on Oct. 23.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Legionnaires' disease is a severe form of pnumonia. The disease does not come from person-to-person contact, rather the bacteria usually is inhaled. The Mayo Clinic website states that older adults, smokers and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.

The disease usually develops after 14 days and symptoms include headache, muscle pain, chills and a fever that could be 104 degrees. Other symptoms include cough that could include blood, chest pain, fatigue, loss of appetite and gastrointestinal symptoms.
